How to be Healthy: A few simple steps

For your total health, and how to be healthy is fast becoming a common question these days. It seems that more and more people are wondering just how they can ever stay healthy. Some of the reasons could be with all the fast food places everywhere you look, and commercials promoting this product or that product trying to convince us it is the “right” thing for us. It is no wonder we are sometimes confused what we need to be doing and stay on the right tract to live a healthier lifestyle.

Speaking for myself, I try to eat what I consider the “right” foods; i.e., plenty of vegetables and I only cook meat in the oven. No fried foods…… well, as little as possible! But, none-the-less, I can not resist a tasty Jumbo Jack with cheese every now-and-then. One good thing is the fact that there are a number of celebrities promoting exercise and diet plans. A good reason is because it lets us know exercise and diet is good for your total health. For some, because they look-up to celebrities, some people are more apt to follow their “idols”. And for the celebrities, it gives them recognition and a hefty paycheck. Another good thing is that a lot of fast food places are actually offering supposedly healthier alternatives on their menus due to popular demand and, of course, more sales for them, and great for your total health.

The main benefit for your total health however, is that with the celebrities promoting newly discovered diet and exercise plans, and fast food places promoting healthier menus allows us to keep a watchful eye on our health, and hopefully, so the opposite sex will keep a watchful eye on us– come on now, you know you like it !! A lot of people have become victims to obesity and high blood pressure but hopefully are becoming aware of what they are eating and their general lifestyle. I know what you are thinking– I sometimes think the same thing as I look around and see so many over-weight people. It is my opinion, and mine only as it is not for me to tell anyone how to think, but– I believe a lot of these people are over-weight simply because they do not care much about themselves. Yes, you are going to tell me; “But Rick, it seems that fat people are always happy because they are always laughing”. My response is– have you ever heard that clowns are the loneliest people there is? But, almost always have smiles painted on their faces and goof around too.

For those of us who are concerned about our total health, and have the desire to live a longer and better life, there are a few ways in which we can finally live the life we have always wanted. Not just for ourselves, but for our friends and family as well. To me, it shows a genuine interest and caring for ourselves and those special to us. Being healthy means less illnesses. Below are a few things you might need to consider doing if you want to know how to be healthy for the long-term.

  • Avoid smoking. Of course, this may seem quite obvious, but puffing on a cigarette several times a day can really be harmful to your total health. Even the packaging states that it can be dangerous, and there are many people all over the world dying on a monthly basis due to excessive smoking. It can increase one’s chances of acquiring cancer in the lungs, and can even reduce their life span by 7 to 8 years.
  • Another thing to consider when you want to know how to be healthy, and for your total health, is to watch out for the foods that you eat. Most people, like me, start off with a lot of motivation, trying to get rid of the junk food in their house, only to give in to the temptation of buying more greasy potato crisps and the like– “umm, a Jumbo Jack with cheese”. Motivation is lost, especially when we simply crave for it a lot, or has become a regular part of our routine. However, we have to remember that eating such foods is not a crime. It only becomes something worth worrying about when it takes up most of your food intake in a day. Therefore, it would make perfect sense to eat such foods in small amounts instead. Focusing more on the healthy food groups, such as fruits and vegetables, is the most important thing though.
  • Exercise regularly. If you really want to know how to be healthy, you would have to perform some exercises every now and then. Doing some jogging first thing in the morning can improve your blood circulation, and reduces the risk of going through cardiovascular illnesses. It also helps you keep the excess weight off your body. With any strenuous workout performed, endorphins are released, which would then lead to a much happier mood. Therefore, do activities which you enjoy, whether it’s playing basketball with your friends or joining in dance classes. The main point is in doing something.
